The Barber Half, like the Barber dime and quarter, was a result of the Mint Act of 1890 allowing for coin design changes every 25 years. After a competition failed to produce a sculptor deemed good enough by the general public, Charles E. Barber was once again chosen to redesign the half dollar, modeled after Morgan's Liberty. As opposed to the Morgan dollar, the Barber half features Liberty to the right, shortened and featured wearing a laurel wreath around the base of the cap.
